Planning For PAX East 2013

PAX East 2013

I went to PAX East and PAX Prime in 2011, but I wasn’t able to attend either event this year. If you don’t know what PAX is, it’s the Penny Arcade Expo. It’s a huge convention for gamers: tabletop, handheld, console, PC and just about any other type of game. If people play it, then it’s probably at PAX. PAX started as a small convention in Seattle, WA in the fall of 2003, but it grew very quickly. PAX in Seattle became PAX Prime and PAX East was born in the spring of 2010 in Boston, MA so that more people could attend the convention. However, there are a lot of people that attend both events each year. About 70,000 people attend each convention every year, and it’s still getting larger. So much so that PAX Australia was just recently announced! I would have preferred Japan, but I’ll take it (not that I’m going or anything, but maybe I will be able to someday). It will be held sometime next summer (and each summer thereafter). Unfortunately, I won’t be going next year, but I would like to go summer 2014. Which means I’ll have to get a passport. Pictures, ugh!

PAX East 2013 will be held March 22-24, 2013, which is 120 days away. I have a lot to do. I’ve already purchased two 3-day passes (for me & B). They should arrive about two weeks before PAX. If you’re interested in going, the individual day passes are still available, but the Saturday passes are running low. My hotel room is also booked for March 21-25, 2013. I chose the Revere Hotel because it wasn’t terribly expensive, and I like the decor. Not to mention the complimentary Wi-Fi, which most hotels charge for these days (at the least the ones I’ve stayed in).

I haven’t purchased plane tickets yet because I’m waiting until about 4-6 weeks before the event when the prices should be lower. Once the planet tickets are out of the way, all I’ll have to do is figure out the minor details of the trip such as what & where to eat each day, how many checked bags, and what panels to attend. Blah!

At the moment, I don’t know any other people that are going to PAX. I keep trying to get some of my friends to go, but things never seem to work out. Hopefully, this year I will meet some awesome new people at PAX, and maybe I can attend with them in the future. PAX is great and lots of fun, and I can’t wait until March arrives!

Until next time.
