Podcasts 2015

I’m still an avid listener of gaming podcasts and podcasts in general. My previous post on podcasts can be found here. It has been about 2 years since I last updated this list with new podcasts that I’ve discovered. I get all of my podcasts via the Podcasts app on iOS (iPhone, iPad). I listen to quite a few podcasts and I’m behind on many of them. Listed below are the podcasts I listen to regularly. The first link is the iTunes subscription page. The second link is the podcast website. I’ve listed the newer ones first. I also have my own podcast: Low Ammo about gaming and tech. Check them all out.

We’re Alive [ We’re Alive ]
I discovered this podcast because it was featured in the “New & Noteworthy” section in the Podcasts app. The main character is a soldier named Michael Cross and it’s set during a zombie apocalypse. It feels similar to The Walking Dead television show. I’m only a few episodes in and I have a long way to go because there are approximately 140 episodes beginning in 2009. The final episode was released in July 2014, but according to the website, a new podcast series is in the works called “Tales From: We’re Alive” so I’m looking forward to that.

The Read [ This Is The Read ]
I discovered this podcast through Twitter. It’s a weekly podcast with hosts Kid Fury and Crissle discussing the latest hip-hop and pop culture celebrity shenanigans and giving advice to listeners who write in with their problems. I absolutely love this podcast. I definitely recommend listening to it.

Serial [ Serial ]
I discovered Serial through Twitter as well. It is a spin-off of the This American Life podcast, which I have not listened to at all. Season 1 of Serial explored the case of Adnan and the death of Hae in 1999. The episodes need to be listened to in chronological order for you to understand the story. The first season is over, but the second season will be starting sometime later this year.

Welcome to Night Vale [ Commonplace Books ]
This is a bi-monthly podcast that’s set up as a radio broadcast for the small town of Night Vale. It’s a very dark and mysterious podcast, but I love it. It has sci-fi, supernatural, horror and fantasy elements. It’s great to listen to while winding down in the evening before bed.

Good Job Brain [ Good Job Brain ]
I can’t remember how I discovered this podcast, but I’m glad I did. It’s a weekly quiz show with offbeat trivia, random facts and much more. If you’re fan of facts and fun then this is a great podcast. It’s also family friendly so anyone can listen to it.

Podtacular [ Podtacular ]
I wish I had discovered this podcast way sooner. I was looking for a new gaming podcast to listen to when I found this in the Podcasts app. I love the Halo games and this podcast is about all things Halo. If you play Halo then I would definitely recommend listening to this podcast.

Major Nelson Radio [ Larry Hryb aka Xbox Live’s Major Nelson ]
Major Nelson Radio is about all things Xbox-related, although many other topics such as tech, gadgets, other gaming consoles, movies, tv shows, and anything else related to geeks and/or nerds are discussed. I love the Xbox consoles & I really enjoy this podcast. It is a great way to stay up on what’s happening in the Xbox world. There’s also a weekly Name the Game contest with prizes & the Xbox 101 weekly segment that provides tips & tricks for getting the most out of your Xbox experience.

Podcast Unlocked [ IGN Staff ]
I started listening to this podcast when Ryan (previously on the discontinued KOXM Radio podcast) left the Official Xbox Magazine to work for IGN. I enjoyed listening to Ryan on KOXM Radio and decided to check out this podcast because he was on it. The first few episodes I listened to with Ryan were a bit rough, but it’s come into it’s own now and I really enjoy it. If you game on Xbox and get your gaming news from IGN, then this is an excellent podcast for commentary on the weekly gaming news for Xbox.

Rooster Teeth Podcast [ Rooster Teeth Staff ]
This was one of the first podcasts that I listened to when I started listening to podcasts back in 2009. Anything is open for discussion and it’s hilarious. If you’re a fan of Rooster Teeth then you probably already listen to it. If you’re a fan of life or you like being alive, then you should definitely listen to this podcast! *Note: Currently, this is a live video podcast on Mondays @ 7:30PM Central Time (for RT sponsors only), but the audio gets reposted as an iTunes audio podcast. I usually watch the video podcast, but I’m behind on those as well.

Honorable Mentions
I listen to these podcasts when I have time, but not regularly. I’m usually caught up on all of my other podcasts before I listen to these.

Discontinued Podcasts
I used to listen to these podcasts, but they have either ended or have not had new episodes in more than a year. I’m still subscribed to them just in case new episodes appear.

Until next time.
