Podcasts 2016

I’m back with my yearly podcasts update! You can check out last year’s update here. I haven’t been listening to podcasts as much as I used to but I plan on changing that this year. Also, I haven’t really discovered many new podcasts. That’s probably because I’m behind on a lot of them and adding new podcasts would’ve just made things worse. I hope to get caught up by the end of summer so that I can finally listen to something new and different. I’m still using the official Apple Podcasts app. So far, so good. I just wish they’d add the option for an alarm to wake up to a podcast. You can check out all of my current shows below in no particular order. The first link is the iTunes subscription page. The second link is the podcast website. Enjoy!

Hunt The TruthHunt The Truth ]

I love this one! The format is somewhat similar to the popular Serial podcast. It detailed the events leading up to Halo 5: Guardians’ release back in October 2015. If you’re a fan of the Halo series, you must listen to this. If you’re into science fiction, you should definitely listen to this. If you’re into neither of those things, you should still listen to it because it’s awesome. There are two seasons totaling 22 episodes. Season 1 stars Keegan-Michael Key as investigative journalist Benjamin Giraud on the hunt for the truth about the Master Chief and his rampant behavior. It’s a nonstop thrill ride that will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time!

We’re Alive [ We’re Alive ]

This podcast details what happens to a group of strangers after the zombie apocalypse beginning in 2009. It feels similar to The Walking Dead television show, but in radio format. There are about 140 episodes divided into chapters. I’m 46 episodes in at this point on Chapter 15: Desperate Times. The final episode was released in July 2014 so I’m excited to finish it, but I know I’ll be sad once I do. However, the creators are in the process of releasing a spin-off of this podcast called “We’re Alive: Lockdown.” They released the first 15 minutes of it this past December so I’ll have more zombie goodness to listen to once I finish this one.

The Read [ This Is The Read ]

This is the only podcast that I’ve managed to listen to on a regular basis. I attribute this to the hosts Kid Fury and Crissle because they discuss the latest hip-hop and pop culture celebrity shenanigans. They also give advice listeners who write in with their problems. I absolutely love this podcast! It’s absolutely hilarious but it also has its serious moments. I definitely recommend listening to it.

Serial [ Serial ]

This is a spin-off of the This American Life podcast which I’ve never listened to and probably won’t. Season 1 explored the case of Adnan and the death of Hae in 1999. The episodes need to be listened to in chronological order for you to understand the story. The first season is over, but the second season just started up recently. I’ve only listened to the first two episodes though. Forgive me for not knowing the details, but it’s about the soldier who got captured. The second season has not grabbed me like the first one did. I’m going to give it a couple more episodes to see if it picks up.

Welcome to Night Vale [ Commonplace Books ]

This is a bi-monthly podcast that’s set up as a radio broadcast for the small town of Night Vale. It’s a very dark and mysterious podcast, but I love it. It has sci-fi, supernatural, horror and fantasy elements. It’s great to listen to while winding down in the evening before bed. I’m still behind. I don’t think I’ve listened to any more episodes since my last update so I’m excited to get back into it.

Good Job Brain [ Good Job Brain ]

This is a weekly quiz show with offbeat trivia, random facts and much more. If you’re fan of facts and fun then this is a great podcast! It’s also family friendly so anyone can listen to it. I started listening around episode 50 so my plan is to listen to all of the early episodes that I missed and then pick up where I left off.

Podtacular [ Podtacular ]

I love the Halo games and this podcast is about all things Halo. If you play Halo then I would definitely recommend listening to this podcast. I wish I had been caught up enough to listen to all of the Halo 5: Guardians episodes to learn some tips and tricks for multiplayer. I can’t wait to get caught up on this podcast though.

Major Nelson Radio [ Larry Hryb aka Xbox Live’s Major Nelson ]

Major Nelson Radio is about all things Xbox-related, although many other topics such as tech, gadgets, other gaming consoles, movies, tv shows, and anything else related to geeks and/or nerds are discussed. I love the Xbox consoles & I really enjoy this podcast. It is a great way to stay up on what’s happening in the Xbox world. There’s also a weekly Name the Game contest with prizes & the Xbox 101 weekly segment that provides tips & tricks for getting the most out of your Xbox experience. This one of the first podcasts that I stopped listening to and got behind on unfortunately.

Podcast Unlocked [ IGN Staff ]

If you game on Xbox and get your gaming news from IGN, then this is an excellent podcast for commentary on the weekly gaming news for Xbox. This was the second podcast that I fell behind on. There’s also a video version if you’re into that.

Rooster Teeth Podcast [ Rooster Teeth Staff ]

My very first podcast subscription. If you’re a fan of Rooster Teeth then you probably already listen to it. I stopped listening to the audio version of this podcast a long time ago. Right now, I’m working on getting up on the video version that’s posted to Youtube since I don’t watch the live show on Monday evenings anymore. However, the audio gets reposted as an iTunes audio podcast.

The Brilliant Idiots [ The Brilliant Idiots ]

The hosts are Charlamagne Tha God (radio personality) and Andrew Schulz (comedian). It mainly focuses on hip-hop culture and current events. I like it, but it’s not one of my go-to shows. It provides an interesting perspective on things which I find refreshing.

Podcasts I Want To Listen To When I’m Caught Up
These are podcasts that I’ve recently discovered, but haven’t had a chance to check out. Once I’m caught up on my regular shows, I’m definitely checking these out.

Podcasts I No Longer Listen To
I decided not to listen to these podcasts anymore mainly due to the content and I have unsubscribed. I think I listen to enough video game podcasts. Always On was just a bunch of guys rambling on for hours about nothing in particular and Gaming Illuminaughty was a bunch of guys being negative about everything related to gaming.

Discontinued Podcasts
I used to listen to these podcasts, but they have either ended or have not had new episodes in more than a year. I’m still subscribed to them just in case new episodes appear.

Until next time.
